Remote (US-based required) | Full-time | Engineering
About Caring.com
Caring.com is a leading senior care marketplace helping millions of families navigate the challenges of aging loved ones. As we modernize our technology stack and customer experience, we’re building a nimble, empowered engineering team that values autonomy, pragmatism, and long-term thinking.
The Role
We’re hiring a Staff Engineer to act as Tech Lead for our Careseeker Success team. This team owns the systems our internal care advisors use to guide families through complex decisions — a crucial part of our mission.
You’ll lead the technical direction of a team (4–6 engineers) currently replacing our legacy CRM and call center systems with a new platform built on Hubspot and Twilio Flex. By the time you join, the MVP will be shipped — your focus will be on the roadmap of enhancements, refinements, and user-focused improvements. Beyond that, the team will pivot to AI/LLM-based automation, such as auto-generating follow-up emails and exploring AI-driven voice/chat agents.
This is a hands-on role: you’ll contribute code regularly while guiding architecture, mentoring teammates, and collaborating across the org.
Tech Stack
- New platform: TypeScript, AWS-native services
- Legacy systems: Ruby on Rails
- Tools in use: Hubspot, Twilio Flex
- Experience in these tools is a plus — but what matters most is strong backend and system design expertise
What You’ll Do
- Lead architecture and implementation for a high-impact customer-facing team
- Write high-quality, maintainable code while guiding the team’s technical decisions
- Model and evolve complex business logic and data relationships
- Partner closely with Product, Operations, and Engineering leadership to shape roadmap priorities
- Participate as a member in the Technology Leadership Team, with visibility and influence into all engineering concerns
- Set the tone for engineering excellence and pragmatic, scalable design
- Explore and prototype future-facing AI/LLM opportunities in collaboration with leadership
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in backend-heavy environments
- Proven ability to design complex systems and data models in real-world production contexts
- Strong AWS experience and comfort in modern TypeScript-based development
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails is a plus (legacy system context)
- Comfortable mentoring junior and mid-level engineers
- Hands-on coding mindset with tech lead maturity — you know when to zoom in and when to step back
- Enthusiastic (or at least curious) about AI/LLMs — you don’t need prior experience, just openness to learning
- A balance of scrappy startup energy and experience with engineering at scale
Why Join Us
- Meaningful mission: helping families in moments that matter
- Remote-first team with smart, supportive colleagues
- High-leverage role in a fast-moving, ambitious engineering org
- Real opportunities to shape our AI direction and technical architecture
What we can offer you:
- Flexible hours and Paid Time Off policy
- Competitive benefits package – Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA, Life, Disability, and Pet insurance
- 401(k) Employer Match
- Direct relationships with the executive leadership team
- Rapid company growth
- Paid caregiver and volunteer days
